Time and safety in defibrillation with paddles versus pads; a comparative study of two defibrillation regimes

چکیده
Background New resuscitation guidelines were published in October 2010. These recommend use of pads instead of paddles and recommend that CPR is continued during charging of the defibrillator. The aim of our study was to investigate the difference in time spent until delivery of the first and second shock using pads versus paddles, and to assess the rescuers subjective feeling of safety when continuing CPR while charging the defibrillator.

Barriers in the implementation of the Resuscitation Guidelines: European survey of defibrillation techniques
BACKGROUND The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Guidelines recommend providing chest compressions during defibrillator charging and using adhesive pads for defibrillation to increase the effectiveness of resuscitation. However, the most common defibrillation technique in each European country is unknown, as are the potential barriers in implementation of the guidelines. The aim of this stud...
متن کاملSelf-adhesive preapplied electrode pads for defibrillation and cardioversion.
The efficacy of self-adhesive electrode pads for defibrillation and cardioversion was assessed in 80 patients who received 267 shocks from self-adhesive pads. In all but two patients, defibrillation or cardioversion was achieved at least once. The pads were equally effective when used in the apex-anterior or apex-posterior position. The transthoracic impedance using self-adhesive pads was 75 +/...
متن کاملThe Mechanism of the Emergence of Defibrillation Syndrome: Methods of Immediate Diagnosis and Treatment
Different mechanisms leading to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) are briefly discussed and the hemorrhagic diathesis which is brought about by this consumption coagulopathy is visualized. Since there is an emergency need for correct management of the disorder. The problem is simplified in order, any physician, to be able to understand the syndrome and to be catious in treating t...
متن کاملA prospective evaluation of two defibrillation safety margin techniques in patients with low defibrillation energy requirements.
INTRODUCTION In patients undergoing defibrillator implantation, an appropriate defibrillation safety margin has been considered to be either 10 J or an energy equal to the defibrillation energy requirement. However, a previous clinical report suggested that a larger safety margin may be required in patients with a low defibrillation energy requirement. Therefore, the purpose of this prospective...
متن کاملHazards with medical devices: the role of design.
There is a growing body of literature highlighting the role of medical device design in preventing (or facilitating) adverse events. However, adverse event investigations in medicine often overlook subtle, latent hazards in design. These inquiries often end (prematurely) with recommendations for remediation, new policies, and “soporific injunctions about better training.” However, these are the...
